HISTÓRIA DA RAIO

1947

Sociedade Ciclista R.A.I.O., Lda. was founded by Joaquim Ribeiro (R.), the three Abrantes brothers (Henrique, Manuel, and Aníbal Abrantes) (A. and I.), and José Oliveira (O) at Rua Eurico Ferreira Sucena, Borralha, Águeda. The company was dedicated to the manufacturing and trade of bicycle components.

1953

Sociedade Ciclista R.A.I.O., Lda. and Luís Fernandes Magalhães, Lda. established a limited liability company with the purpose of trading steel, machinery, tools, and non-ferrous metals.

1965

RAIO and five other companies that manufactured bicycle saddles and operated in the same market realized they were often competing with each other. They decided to organize into a single company, Tabor, Organização Ciclista da Borralha Lda. RAIO and the other five companies ceased production of saddles and transferred their means of production to this new organization.

1967

The company name was changed to RAIO Móveis Metálicos Lda. At this stage, RAIO began its journey in the manufacturing of metal office furniture.

1996

The Guerra Family (Jorge Guerra and family) acquired 100% of the share capital. At the time, RAIO had lost market share and was in a delicate position. From this date forward, under the new management, Mr. Jorge Guerra revitalized the company within the office furniture market. New furniture lines were developed, and RAIO re-emerged on the national scene.

  • Promoting continuous improvement of environmental performance by identifying and evaluating environmental aspects associated with activities and products that the company controls or can influence, aiming to minimize or eliminate environmental impacts and prevent pollution;

  • Promoting ethical behavior, respect for human rights, and respect for fundamental labor rights;

  • Implementing operational practices aimed at preventing corruption in all its forms;

  • Promoting social responsibility within the communities where it operates, contributing to their progress and well-being.

CERTIFICATION

RAIO’s manufacturing process is based on the application of a quality system in accordance with the requirements of the ISO 9001 standard, subject to control and monitoring by an accredited organization.

RAIO holds the PME Líder status, a reputation label created by IAPMEI to distinguish the merit of Portuguese SMEs (Small and Medium-sized Enterprises) with superior performance.
